FWPA was founded by Prof. Markus Redding and his son Alexander Horsley-Redding, who shared a common vision of empowering fathers and their children to take responsibility for peace, human rights and the environment through education, leadership development and direct participation in the events that shape our world community. As fathers, it is the responsibility of each of us, individually and collectively, to do our part to make the world a better place for our children, and to inspire and empower a new generation of peace leaders.

What is the project's vision statement?

FATHERS FOR WORLD PEACE vision is to build a world where fathers play a more significant role in building sustainable peace. Through building partnerships-locally and globally-fathers and their children together can transform fear and hostility into actions that build harmonious cultures.

He has lectured and conducted educational trainings at a variety of institutions including New York University, Fordham University, Loyola University, Columbia University, Pace University, Brooklyn Law School, John Jay School for Criminal Justice, NYC Private Schools, New York City and State Criminal Court Judges Conferences, National Domestic Violence Day Conferences, Innovation of the Courts Workshops, MLK Day Civil Rights Events, Coalition on Homelessness: Shelter and Transitional Housing Workshops, American Disability Act: Outreach Seminars, and numerous judicial & non-judicial domestic violence related presentations and seminars for judges, court personnel and community organizations throughout New York State.

Prof. Redding has worked as a government and public interest attorney/social worker combining his social policy and legal skills. He has served as a New York State and City Court Attorney concentrating on the design and development of specialized court parts including community, drug, mental health and domestic violence courts. He has worked on several policy research initiatives relating to homelessness, domestic violence, human rights and alternative dispute resolution. He has also worked with adults, families and children in a variety of clinical and administrative settings in the areas of mental health, grief and loss, domestic violence, substance abuse prevention and homelessness.

He has also founded and served on numerous non-profit committees; the Family Court Advisory Council; NYPD Domestic Violence Prevention Committee; Queens Borough President’s Task Force on Violence; NYC Dept. of Corrections Task Force on Family Violence; NYC Gender Bias Committee; NYC Batterer treatment Task Force (Founder); New York Citywide Task Force on Domestic Violence; National Association of Social Workers Committee on Families and Children; NYC Health and Hospitals DV Committee; NYC Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project; Alternatives to Violence Court Steering Committee; NYC City Mayors Task Force on Domestic Violence, and Brooklyn Child Advocacy Committee, Citywide Violence Advisory Committee, and was appointed the first Domestic Violence Coordinator for the NYC Criminal Court.

Professor Redding has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including an Outstanding Achievement Award for Innovative Court Program Design, Merit Fellowship Award in Elderly/Disabled Law, Gillis Long Poverty Law Fellowship, among others. Recently he was recognized and honored by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and listed in Marquis Who's Who in America Education.
